Keeping Your Indoor Houseplants Healthy
House plants offer an invitation to nature’s world inside while the greens add softness that is much needed to escape the indoor spaces’ bareness.
These environments can brighten our mood, inspire joy, calm and even purify the air we breathe. Although every plant is unique and there are different needs of each plant, below are some commonly-applied practices to assist you in planting your plants.
1.Match Plants with Light Conditions :
Golden rule is that every vegetable has its own light requirements. Some enjoy the hot periods near the directly pointing south-facing windows, but some prefer the more peaceful dawn glow from the ones in the east direction. Moreover, distance from the window matters; certain windows offer high quantity and quality of light, while other windows do not.
So, just to remind you, all indoor plants, whether is be some, or even the whole of their outdoor light, need all of it, but some less than the others. The tray is the right key which should be balanced for all the plants.
2. Watch for Signs of Light Stress :
Your plants will talk if they don\’t get light they want, and it well be loud. While light is crucial for the growth of houseplants, it’s important to note the tricky nature of light.
Too much illumination can make their leaves crumble and wilt, they can be well-watered. Taking in contrast, plants which are starved for light will use this time to slump and instead become leggy and spindly.
3. Choose the Right Containers :
This refers to the size, what the pot is made of, and even color when making a choice regarding the right pot for your plant.
4. Use Quality Potting Soil :
Without good potting soil, roots will become dysfunctional and fail to perform the right chemical, physical and biological roles. A good potting soil will have all these properties at the adequate ratios. Do not treat these pots as a substitute for the old kinds of soil garden soil as they can result in degradation.
5. Water Wisely :
If you decide that placing your plants in containers is the best option, your plants still require periodic watering, however, it needs to be done correctly. Water a little bit deep so that the remaining flood itches the bottom of the pot in order to avoid root diseases. During a hot and dry summer, start a regular check as soon as in the morning so that you can water the plant when the surface top 2 or 3 inches dry up. Besides giving it a touch, you can also measure the moisture of the pot by its weight.
6. Feed and Protect :
Constantly watering can also feed the fertilizer to the soil, therefore, ensure your plants regularly. Make a regular check on aphids and whiteflies pests, you will remove these acts as soon as you spot them.
7. Control the Environment :
The plant can face a lot of harsh conditions when indoors with conditions like dry air and chills. Ensure that your plants are in good and drafty places, use humidity tray or put them in naturally humid zones like kitchen and bathroom.
8. Keep it Clean :
Dust buildup between your plant’s leaves can be quite detrimental since the light will be deprived and at the same time it will be a perfect home for insects. Regularly clean your plant’s foliage by wiping the leaves with a damp cloth or rinsing them outdoors, or in case of delicate leaves, you can plunge the whole plant including the roots.
