Another advantage or plus side to natural stone is that it is very hard and withstands wear very well and so maintenance is minimal. But it is also possible over years the patio gets dirt stained and one might be wondering if there was a way to clean it.

Suppression of moss and algae is achieved mechanically by using a power washer. The method that I would apply when using power washing is to maintain a proper distance away from the surface so as not to shower the stone with too much concentrated power simultaneously. Approximately, we would advise maintaining 3 feet distance from the source of noise.

Also, it is important not to stream the water onto joints. The cleanser is just to clean the stone from debris or build-up.

I know that you do not like having too much dust on the patio and a top leader can make the patio feel like new once again.

There is also another fact that says sandstone itself tends to be a little bit fluttery. If it is flaky and loose it could simply be washed away using power washing.

The other tasks that must be considered in the maintenance of a natural stone patio are as follows; There are other couple of maintenance activities that need to be accommodated to maintain a natural stone patio.

Re-Sanding the Joints

It is also advised that as a form general natural stone patio maintenance you might also want to re-sand the joints. This can be done every few years to keep the look clean and updated. In a given period of time, the sand will settle or get washed away.

When it comes to re-sanding the joints I prefer to discourage the use of polymeric sand, and I also prefer pointing the house with an ordinary masonry sand. Unfortunately it will still have a fine texture and not stick to your pavers.

Such people tend to have mixed feelings regarding any growth that would take place within those seams that are created by the paver joints.

It also looks as nice with large joints and some natural grasses or even wildflowers coming up amongst them. Some home owners see this as an advantage and even feel that the grasses or flowers complete the look and feel of open natural spaces.
